Holiday Vibes

It’s beginning to look a lot like winter. Sunrise over on the farm last week.

Good Vibes

Have you ever found yourself somewhere that just makes you happy? I call this 'having a good vibe.' I often tell Kim and Kelly that the farmer's market has a good vibe. There is also a good vibe at our local food coop. Good vibes make life enjoyable. I am always on the hunt for a good vibe and I have found them in two communities. Reflecting on the ten different places I've lived, my favorites stand out because of the community and people. Moving to Fairbanks sight unseen was tough. Kelly and I spent days in a hotel (behind a strip club with our two cats and two dogs), feeling trapped as we searched for a place to live. Cabins with no running water are still a thing in Fairbanks! Once settled, we saw the beauty of the Great Land was reflected in her people, many of them transplants like us. We were embraced by potlucks, hikes, movie nights, and camping adventures, forming a diverse group of friends. Shopping at Fred Meyer was more than errands; it was a chance to see friends and make plans. Kelly and I moved to Fairbanks twice and found the most wonderful people and community both times. You could say that Fairbanks is my measuring stick for great places to live. Sorry D.C., you did not measure up, although you are an amazing city that instilled awe in me every day. Worthington is unlike Fairbanks in every way but one - community. When we moved here, we felt immediately welcome - and this was during COVID. Although there is no Fred Meyer, you cannot go far in Worthington (mostly because you cannot go far and still be in Worthington) without bumping into someone you know. There is community tree lighting, wreath making (an over 100-year tradition), and Founders Day potluck. Restorative yoga and pub singalongs provide community relaxation. Here, we have found friendship and community as we did over 20 years ago in Fairbanks. Two places so very far apart and different, yet both with such a good vibe. The thing about a good vibe, although I attach it to place, it is the people that make the vibe. This holiday season - heck for all time - may you be part of the good vibe and community that we are all looking for and trying to create.

Seasonal Shifts

Thank you to everyone that sent our delicious maple to friends and family this season. For those that are planning on gifts to arrive before Christmas, shipping is taking longer than previous years. We hope you can get your orders in by the 16th especially if shipping to California or other western states. Thank you again for your support.

May you and your loved ones be safe, happy and warm this holiday season.

We will be at the  Berkshire Grown Winter Market in Housatonic on December 21st - 10-2.
